Step by Step Guide

Welcome to your Permanent Make Up procedure.

Pre Procedure Eligibility

Clients must be at least 18 years of age to receive a Permanent Make Up procedure.

  • Women who are pregnant or nursing are not eligible for permanent cosmetics.
  • Persons with autoimmune conditions and healing problems must obtain a written doctor’s consent before being eligible for Permanent Make Up procedures.
  • The National Blood Service does not accept blood donations for one year following a tattoo procedure.

General Information

The application of permanent cosmetics is often a two or more step process. Retouch procedures should be scheduled no closer than three-four weeks intervals.

Be prepared for colour intensity to be significantly sharper and darker immediately after the procedure. This will subside and become lighter as the tissue heals. This process can take up to ten days.

Advice for all permanent cosmetic procedures

  • Since delicate skin or sensitive areas may be swollen or red, it is advised not to make social plans for the same day.
  • Please wear your normal make up to the salon on the day of the procedure
  • Do not take Aspirin, Ibuprofen, or Coumadin for 2 days before and 2 days after the procedure
  • Do not discontinue any medication before consulting your doctor
  • Do not drink alcohol 24 hours before your treatment.
  • No caffeine in the morning of the treatment, please.
  • A patch test will be performed unless waived upon request.

What will you feel during the healing process?

The healing process of Permanent Cosmetics may be different to what you expect.  As a reference for you and to put your mind at rest, our clients have  provided the following information after having received all three procedures.

The next day I felt like I had ‘tired eyes’, like I had a hangover. My eyes were slightly puffy; though it subsided by lunchtime and by that evening they were almost back to normal. After a few days the pigment started to come off in strips, like flaking, but it did not hurt. I was completely back to normal after a week.”

Swelling differs from each individual, to eliminate swelling you can place ice on the treated areas every hour for about 10 minutes (through a cling film to prevent wetting the area!). Make sure you are rolling the ice, do not leave it in one area. An additional pillow is advisable when sleeping that evening. Do not use eyelash curlers for 5 days after procedure. New mascara has to be purchased, but do not use it until approximately 5 days after the procedure.

“I felt quite silly for the rest of the day with darker eyebrows as mine were very light before the procedure. The next day I had got used to them and they had faded a lot. I felt no pain during the procedure or afterwards. The colour almost disappeared after a few days and took two weeks to come back”.

Your brows need to be gently blotted to remove excess body fluids to eliminate crusting. Make sure your wash your hair with your head tilted backwards to stop water running down your face. Do not try to hide your eyebrows with your fringe in the first two days., this is the easiest way to cause infection. Keep your fringe away from your eyebrows!

“After the procedure my lips had a burning sensation, after an hour this died away and they felt fine for the rest of the day. The colour was nice, but darker than I originally wanted and this did worry me, though I had been assured it was only temporary. The next day my lips were fine, there was no dryness, but they were a little tender.

On the day three I woke up with very dry lips, I have used nearly the whole pot of healing balm for the next two days! At the end of day 3 and on day 4 the dry skin was coming off my lips, it was very hard not to pick at them. By the end of day 5 all the dry skin had come off and there appeared to be no colour there at all, I was worried that the procedure hadn’t worked on me! It took two weeks for the colour to come back and it was much lighter than straight after the procedure, as promised. After my second procedure the colour and shape are perfect.”

The anaesthetic will have worn off within 30 mins and your own colour will come back into your lip tissue. Ice can be applied the same as for eyeliner to relieve the burning sensation. After 2 hours and before you go to bed gently blot the area with a damp (but not soaking wet) cotton wool pad to remove excess body fluids and tiny blood spots to eliminate crusting. Apply the healing product every hour whilst awake. Do not apply the lipstick until after 7 days. It is possible that an allergic reaction to the ingredients of the lipstick may occur should you apply it within this period.

Be careful when eating spicy, salty or citrus foods; avoid them if possible for the healing period. Drink through a straw for the first day to prevent contact with contaminates and washing off your healing product. Also be careful when brushing your teeth.

If you suffer with cold sores and are not using Zovirax or a similar product to protect an outburst, our technician will not be responsible for excessive colour fading. We can guarantee a 90% chance you will have an outbreak of cold sore if a Zovirax or other medication are not used.

Remember the colour is up to 50 % DARKER straight after the treatment. It will fade within 4-7 days and the true healed colour will not be apparent until up to 4 weeks after the initial treatment.  Often clients think they have lost their colour, please remember what we said about the colour becoming stronger.

Maintenance after 12 to 18 months

  • In order to keep your permanent cosmetics in perfect condition it may be necessary to have a maintenance session every 12 to 18 months, though it will vary for each individual.  The cost of these procedures is roughly half that the original procedure. Please see current price list for details.
  • To delay pigment fade for as long as possible, avoid excessive exposure to the sun or UV rays and use good sunscreen or moisturizer with an SPF 15.
  • If you are planning an MRI scan, chemical peel or any other similar procedures, please inform your practitioner that you have had permanent cosmetics.
  • If you are planning injectables such as botox and collagen, remember it can alter the shape of your lips and eyebrows. Talk to us about it.

Laser hair removal can fade and change the shade of your lip and brow procedure, always advise the laser technician you are wearing permanent cosmetics and they can act accordingly.
